Women Against Breast Cancer (WABC) was founded in 1998 to assist women in North Central Montana who struggle with expenses related to breast cancer and breast cancer prevention.
Women Against Breast Cancer (WABC) is a local non-profit 501c3 organization whose purpose is to raise money to be held locally to assist local patients with quality of life issues and ever increasing medical costs while combating breast cancer. We have been able to assist with mammograms, medical expenses, wigs, breast prostheses, day care, travel for 2nd opinions, travel to see family members, registration fees for survivors to attend cancer retreats, the list goes on. We interact with other organizations to try to get the best services for patients that they require.
Our organization consists of a board of local volunteers who are committed to answering the requests we receive as best we can with the funds we raise. The board consists now of the same women who created the organization in 1998.
Our motto: We are dedicated to helping women fight breast cancer with faith, hope, dignity, and courage
We began with the thought we would just be helping women, but we have helped men patients as well.
In 1997, a group of people got together to plan a Women only golf tournament. They wanted to raise money to help cancer patients since one of their friends was battling breast cancer at that time. They raised the funds that year and decided to form a non-profit organization. They formed WABC with a volunteer board. Their friend was a founding member and is now a 17 year survivor.
WABC continues to raise money with the annual golf tournament. Other fund raisers have presented themselves to the board throughout the years, which has helped to raise additional fund. They continue to hold the golf tournament as their main fund raiser.
